Matcha tea is recognizable by its beautiful green color.
Traditionally used in Japan, it’s currently known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
However, it has many other benefits for health.
Matcha tea: nutritional composition
Its growing conditions protect the matcha tea from sun exposure and stimulate chlorophyl and polyphenol (catechins) content of its leaves as well as L-theanine, caffeine and C- vitamin.
Matcha tea: nutritional benefits
Theanine is a regulator of serotonin and dopamine. It provides a relaxing effect and improves concentration, memory and alertness.
Catechins provide the antioxidant properties of matcha tea, in particular the gallate epicatechins responsible with a high antioxidant potential.
These catechins neutralize free radicals contributing to anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and liver detoxification effects.
Caffeine is also an antioxidant and complements catechins. It reduces chronic oxidative stress and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Phenolic acids also antioxidant but also hypoglycemic, neuro-protective. They modulate the metabolism of lipids and carbohydrates and thus participate in weight control.
The antioxidant rutin acts to protect the vessels and the cardiovascular system. Like phenolic acids, it would be anti-diabetic and preventive from complications of diabetes.
Quercetin acts in synergy with rutin on blood sugar balance by improving insulin sensitivity. It also has neuroprotective activity.
Matcha tea will be beneficial for:
- balance blood sugar
- facilitate weight loss
- improve cognitive functions of memory, attention, vigilance, concentration
- relax the nervous system
- slow down the effects of aging
- protect the cardiovascular system
- support immunity
